CIVIC WELCOME
MEMBERS OF FORCES
NC SPEECHES AT LUNCH
Auckland plans for the civic welcome on Friday to the personnel of the Second N.Z.E.F., back from the Middle East, including nursing sisters, V.A.D.'s. Waacs, airmen and naval men who have served in the battle areas, have been completed, and the occasion should be a memorable one. The Mayor of Auckland, Mr. Allum, said this morning that the civic welcome at the apex of. the Town Hall, after the march through the city, would be brief. There would be a musical programme at the luncheon, but no speeches. Mr. Allum added that they wanted the men to enjoy the city's hospitality and have a pleasant hour, and tb give Auckland citizens the fullest opportunity to cheer the troops, show appreciation of what they had done, and welcome them home. Auckland primary school children are to have a full holiday on Friday in view of the parade of servicemen and women. This decision was made by the Auckland Education Board at its meeting this morning, in response to a reauest by the Mayor.
