N.Z.'S BIG TEN!
* INCOMES OF £20,000
WHAT STATISTICS SHOW
There were, in 1940-41, only ten taxpayers in New Zealand whose total returnable income was £20,000 or more. Th'is is revealed in the latest statistics issued by the Government. By far the most numerous class of taxpayers was the £200 to £300 group, which numbered 68,577. Tax assessed, and presumably paid, was contributed in the largest degree by those in the £1000 and £2000 income group. The people in this group paid into the public account £1,533,639. No other group even approached the million mark. The ten taxpayers with £20,000 or more paid up to the tune of £121,931. Surprisingly, there were nearly 8000 taxpayers in the £1000-£2OOO group, and little more than 2000 people in the £900-£IOOO section. The following table is revealing:—
