VALKYRIAN DEAD The death has occurred of the Englishbred stallion Valkyrian, which was located- in- South -Canterbury for several years past. He 'was foaled in 1917, and ■was imported to New Zealand by Dr. W. C. Ring, Auckland, in 1922. Valkyrian was by William the Third; the best staying son of St. Simon, from Valkyr by Eager (son of Enthusiast) from St. Natalia (half-sister to the Oaks winner La Sagesse), by Common from St. Mary by Hermit. It was intended to put him into training in New Zealand, but he met with an accident soon after his arrival. Valkyrian sired many useful horses, both flat performers and jumpers. Among them were Valpeen, winner of the Grand National Steeplechase twice, the Great Northern-Steeplechase twice, and the Wellington Steeplechase; Slayer, Prince of Orange, Strip, Valarth, Val Watch, Lord Val. and good performers by him on the flat were Sleeveless, Norsemen, Shy, Prince Val and Vali. Vaikyrian's most notable contribution to racing history should be Valadore, who is the dam of Kindergarten.
