PATRIOTIC WORK

AN ACTIVE MONTH In the absence of the Mayoress, Mrs. J. A. C. Allum. the monthly meeting of the women's activities committee of the Auckland Metropolitan Patriotic Committee was presided over by Miss Ellen Melville. The house, report, presented by Miss B. Carnachan, stated that there was a greater demand for wool fw knitting. A start has been made m preparing for the next packing of overseas parcels. A request having come to hand for a large number of hussifs for the army, committees were asked to take as many as possible, and to fill them with as many articles as they could from the stock available. The Air Force Relations report presented by Mrs. Lan Horton stated that a total of 385 garments had been received, including mittens, gloves, scarves, balaclavas, socks, pullovers and jerseys. Arrangements were well in hand for the production, "Happy Landings," to be presented by Air Force Relations at His Majesty's Theatre this month to raise patriotic funds. In presenting the report of the reception sub-com-mittee, Mrs. A. E. Moore stated that they had been kept busy arranging private hospitality, and thanks were due to the various hostesses. The patriotic shop had a very successful month, reported Mrs. A. D. Campbell, the sum of £585 10/ having been raised since February 18. Appreciation was expressed of the splendid work done by the various organisations.
