FINAL TRIBUTES
TO MAORI MEMBER CEREMONY AT ORAKEI Arrangements have been made for the Auckland public, both Maori and pakeha, to pay their last respects to the Native Minister, the Hon. P. K. Paikea, whose death occurred a few days ago. At Ngaruawahia pa to-day traditional ceremonies associated with the death of a leading man in the community took place. The body was lying in state all day, and will be brought to Auckland with parties representing the Ratana and Waikato peoples, reaching the Auckland railway station at 10.45 on Sunday morning. From the station the funeral cortege will go to the Maori pa at Orakei. There further native ceremonies are planned, including a general tangi and orations. Between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday the public are invited to the pa to pay their final tributes. On Monday the Native Minister will be taken to his last resting place. In view of the fact that wreaths deteriorate, those making such tributes are asked to leave them at the Auckland railway station (room 224) between 10 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m..and 2 p.m. on Monday. Wreaths from North Auckland should be forwarded direct to the Maungaturoto railway station.
