MESSAGES OF SYMPATHY

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday

The following message has been received by the Governor-General, Sir Cj'ril Newall, from the private secretary to the King: "The King much regrets to hear of the death of Mr. Paikea and will be glad if you will express his sympathy with the Prime Minister and the Government in their loss."

The Prime Minister, Mr. Eraser, has received a message from Mr. H. Tai Mitchell, of Rotorua, expressing his and the Arawas' regret at the loss of an "earnest, enthusiastic and sober-minded rangitira."

Many other messages of sympathy have also been received.
