PAYMENT FOR WOOL
LOCAL, MILLS' SUPPLIES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A claim that there was no case for any section of the wool industry demanding that the additional 15 cent granted by the British Government for New Zealand wool be paid in respect of wool used by local mills was made by the Minister of Marketing, Mr. Barclay, in an address to a meeting of farmers at Masterton to-day. He said there could be no question of woolgrowers subsidising the rest of the community by stabilising the price of wool at its present level. He contended that the fact was that the comparative position showed that the rest of the community should not be requested to pay tribute to woolgrowers, so that their present extremely favourable position could be further improved. A resolution was carried that the meeting felt that a grave injustice had been done in the distribution of wool payments, and asked that a case be stated before the Supreme Court.
