DRIVER SENT TO GAOL
THEFT OF PACKING CASES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. A sentence of four months' imprisonment was imposed on William George Hayden, for the theft of 2280 packing cases of a total value of £399. Accused, it was stated, was a driver for a carrying firm which worked for Woolworths, Limited. Between April, 1941, and February, 1943, he called on Hannah and Company on 174 occasions and sold cases which he had collected at the railway station for return to Woolworths. . A storeman at Hannah's, who received 79 of the cases knowing they were stolen, was admitted to probation for 18 months.
