CONGESTED SCHOOL
INTERMEDIATE TRAINING
"Kowhai Intermediate School contains' over 900 pupils—3oo too many, in my opinion. This congestion will be increased when the school leaving age is raised to 15, and it must be relieved. Balmoral School is eminently suitable for an intermediate school to relieve Kowhai." This remark was. made by Mr. H. McChesney, senior inspector of schools, at the meeting of the Auckland Education Board this morning. The board was discussing a telegram from the Mayor of Mount Eden, stating that a meeting of 300 Balmoral householders protested against the school being made an intermediate one. They were in-; forming their Parliamentary representative, Mr. Anderton, of their views. Members of the board pointed out that the executive had visited the school, and on the recommendation of the Education Department had agreed to its status being changed. The board decided to adhere to its decision.
