Mrs. Roosevelt Launches New Carrier PRODUCT OP KAISER YARDS Rec. 2.30 p.m. NEW YORK, April 6. The first aircraft-carrier constructed at the Kaiser shipyard has been christened, by Mrs. Roosevelt, Alazon Bay. Washington has coined a pseudonym for the famous shipbuilder, Mr. Henry J. Kaiser—Sir Launch alot. The Alazon Bay is a new. type of escort carrier, being built for the British and American Navies. Eleven sister carriers are in various stages of construction at the Kaiser yards. The Alazon Bay, which was launched four months after Its keel was laid, has a waterline length of 487 ft and a flight deck of 514 ft. Previously Mr. Kaiser promised that these carriers could be launched at the rate of three to six per month. Mr. Kaiser has declared his intention to build immediately a large metal aeroplane capable of flying 17 500 miles non-stop. He described the plane as of the flying wing type Loaded with fuel and bombs it could bring to Tokyo the havoc and destruction which was visited upon Pearl Harbour. Mr. Kaiser already is building giant plywood planes in collaboration with Mr. Howard Hughes.
