This Douglas airliner, en route from Sydney to Melbourne, crashed while making a forced landing owing to engine trouble. The skill of the pilot saved the lives of the 12 passengers. The crew of two Australian National Airways pilots and an air hostess, were injured. The plane's back was broken and the force of the impact threw 'the starboard engine 50 yards from the plane.
