MARKET QUIET AND FIRM
The week opened fairly quietly on the Auckland Stock Exchange to-day, with stocks at firm levels and sellers tending to hold aloof. Support for most Australian shares was slightly firmer, and Colonial Sugars gained a further 5/ to sell at £55 5/. English, Scottish and Australian Banks were firmer at £4 1/. In the industrial group, Union Oil, Soap and Candles had first business since September, showing, at fl 8/4, a rise of lOd. Gilt-edged issues were unchanged.
