DOUBLE VICTORY

MOUNT ALBERT GRAMMAR ROWERS In their sixth annual contest with Wanganui College, the rowing representatives of Mount Albert Grammar School last week at Wanganui won both the fours and eights events, thus marking in a decisive manner the first occasion on which Mount Albert has been successful. No meeting took place last year because of the war situation. On Friday the fours tried conclusions, the Mount Albert crew being:—M. Walters (stroke), A Taylor, W. Waldran and D. Wrathall (bow). The boats kept very close order until the last 200 yards, when the visitors went ahead to win by half a lengttf. The eights race was held on Saturday in calm water over a mile course, the Mount Albert crew being:—M. Walters (stroke), D. Wrathall, W. Waldran. A. Taylor, R. Wickham, R. Fletcher, B. Wright and G. Allely (bow). Wanganui went away at the start, but at half-way Mount Albert got on terms and they kept company for 300 or 400 yards, when the Aucklanders, with power and precision, moved away to win by a length and a half. E. Braithwaite was cox to both teams, which were trained by Mr. D. G. Stotter. of the West End Rowing Club. Competent judges in Wanganui said the Mount Albert crew is one of the best school crews seen in Wanganui for a long period. -■
