GRIERSON RUNS FAST
KING'S 880 YDS RECORD OLD TIME PUT UP IN 1908 Despite the threatening weather there was a good attendance of parents and friends at the annual athletic sports of the King's College at Middlemore. The recent rain had a slowing-up effect on times, and a strong westerly wind also had an adverse effect. The outstanding performance was that of J. C. Grierson, who won the half-mile in 2.6 4-5, which was 1 2-5s better than the existing record. This was established by G. N. Hill (who afterwards was a New Zealand Olympian), when he clocked 2.8 1-5 in 1908. In the senior cup competition R. T. Hellaby and J. C. Grierson dead-heated for the honours, S. G. Clark being third. J. D. North was first in the junior cup, with B. W. Allen second and G. . G. Gilmore third. Under 14J years, the cup competition was won by R. E. Gibbons, D. G. Steward being second and J. L. Gordon third. Detailed results:— Senior Cup.—loo yards: S. G. Clark l. P- PRobinson 2, F. R. Hellaby 3. Time. 11 l-5s 220 yards: S. G. Clark I, P. F. Robinson 2. F. R. Hellaby 3.
