HONEY SUPPLIES
A degree of publicity has been given to the unpardonable attitude of the Canterbury beekeepers. To all who are familiar with those in Canterbury who foster this agitation for their personal gain, no surprise will be caused by their attitude. It is obvious that if these producers can quickly dispose of their crop, of possibly ten to twenty tons or more, they can very easily afford to pay a considerable fine and reap a substantial profit at the expense of those producers who have loyally supported the Government in its proposals for obtaining supplies for its wartime commitments. Commercial beekeepers throughout New Zealand have been pleased to receive special consideration in the matter of tyres, benzine and manpower, and punishment for infringement of the regulation# in the way of a fine will certainly not satisfy those producers who have forwarded large quantities of honey to the Government which they could have sold very readily at the full Price Tribunal retail figure of IOJd net per lb. I would suggest, therefore, that in view of the detrimental effect these producers are having on the wartime efforts of the Government to effect equal distribution of essential foods, they be deprived of benzine supplies and their manpower directed into more useful channels. J. R. BARBER, Beekeeper, Pio Pio.
