CENTENNIAL REUNION

On March 31, 1843, the sailing ship Westminster anchored in the Waitemata harbour. One of the first families to disembark was that of Mr Carlton Hill, who became the first postmastqr in Auckland and later named the present district of Hillsboro'. As a mark of respect to his memory and that of other pioneering members of the family, a reunion of his descendants was held on Thursday last at the residence of Mr. G. Hall, Tuperiri Road, One Tree Hill. Some of the oldest present, whose ages were over 80, spoke of the hardships endured, especially by the pioneer women, and also of the large number of the present generation who were serving in the armed forces. The gathering of thirty people came from all walks of life, and the family has played a part in the building of the present city.
