CONFERENCE CALLED
WATER BOARD PROPOSAL The Mount Eden Borough Council has invited 34 local authorities, including the Auckland City Council, to send representatives to a conference on April 15, at which it is hoped to obtain approval, in principle, of a water scheme for every borough between Cambridge and Henderson. The invitation is framed in such a way that attendance by representatives will imply approval of the general principle of creating a water-board, of which the task will be to bring to the various localities a supply of water . from Taupo, or the Waikato River. The Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. R. J. Mills, said his council was taking the long view, realising that by a wide scheme that used the Waikato, at some point recommended by engineers, the water problem could be solved for generations. As laymen, they did not intend to frame a definite scheme, as obviously they would have to accept the judgment of engineers. Their aim was to assemble at the conference the representatives of all local authorities which approved the principle of the formation of a water board to utilise the never-failing Taupo or Waikato River source.
