NEW MOTOR STICKERS

ISSUE IN AUCKLAND CHARGE TO APPLICANTS Many applications for new motor car stackers to replace those lost or destroyed are received each month at the Auckland Motor Registrations branch. In a recent week the applications totalled 40. Destruction of stickers by children is not uncommon, but there are cases of accidents when windshields are smashed and cases when windshields simply fall to pieces. Motor cyclists often damage the holders carrying the stickers. Also there are motorists who ignore the instructions for affixing the stickers. They think they have a better method and later discover their mistake. Criticisms of the charge of 1/ for the stickers, which are occasionally heard, are regarded by the authorities as unwarranted as they consider the fee moderate. The stickers are numbered serially, and the issue of a new one involves an alteration to all existing records. It starts in the local office, where a receipt is given for the 1/, the sticker supplied and the number noted on a card. This information is then sent to Wellington. There they also note the record on a card. The insurance company is then advised. The company makes a note of the record. Perhaps up to a dozen different persons are concerned in altering records.
