Provision For Thousands Of
U.S. Army Personnel
SUPPLIES MADE AVAILABLE Rec. 11 a.m. CHUNGKING, Mar. 3. A Chinese-American arrangement was developed in December under which the Chinese Government will house, feed and provide servants and interpreters for thousands of American Army personnel in return for lease-lend supplies. Furthermore, Marshal Chiang Kaishek gave to the American air forces the Chinese planes which the Flying Tigers used in Burma and also made available to the Americans important military supplies whose nature cannot be disclosed. A Chinese communique say that in Western Yunnan the Japanese have captured Tachupa, on the west bank of the Salween River. Fighting continues. In Shantung Province the Chinese halted the Japanese west of Yishui. In Hupeh Province severe fighting is reported in the vicinity of Mienyang.
