WOMEN AT WICKETS

TEACHERS DEFEAT A.L.H.A.

H. THOMPSON 10 FOR 14 ON SHORE

Keen fielding, smart returns to the wicket and steady concentration on the game were the reasons that Training College was able to defeat A.L.H.A. last Saturday, and the students are to be congratulated on a jvell-deserved win. The teachers are usually ai a disadvantage in that their personnel is changed considerably year to year, but this season's team has some fine talent. B. Brodie and J. Johnston impress as being batsmen from whom many runs can be expected. Among the trundlers, M. Hutchings takes the eye as a bowler of promise. Her figures on Saturday were four for 11. J. Eaddy, who is an acquisition to A.L.H.A.'9 bowling strength, did very well with the ball, again being responsible for three wickets at a cost of eight runs. M. Butt, A.L.H.A.'s break bowler, was punished by Training College, but she was the downfall of four batsmen, who scored 47 runs off her. At Takapuna, North Shore scored a six-point victory off Suburbs. Shore batted first and declared at six wickets for 130 (M. Koefoed 53 not out, and the brilliant left-hander, H. Thompson, 39). Suburbs started disastrously, for the captain, R. McKenzie, was dismissed by H. Thompson when 2; the steady bowling of Shore demoralised the rest, and the innings finished at 25. In the follow-on, the team scored only 17. Shore's fast left-hand bowler, Hilda Thompson, finished up with 10 wickets for 14 runs and D. Simons, five for 9, taken on both Suburbs innings. F. McDonald is a cricketer of promise, and the Suburbs coach should pay particular attention to this player who seems to have ideal temperament. The fixtures for Saturday next at Melville Park North Shore v. A.L.H.A., College v. —A.L.H.A. v. Berlei, Mount Albert- v. College, Metro College a bye.
