ENLISTING GIRLS

"Apparently some girls who are desirous of enlisting in the Armed Forces and 'who are employed in undertakings which have not been declared' essential have resigned their positions with the idea of facilitating their entry into the Armed Forces. By so doing they place themselves outside the protection afforded by the Occupational ReEstablishment Emergency Regulations," states the Director of National Service. Mr. J. S. Hunter. The director stressed the advisability of a girl remaining in her present position till she was actually posted for service with the forces. On receipt of a mobilisation nor.ee she should promptly advise her -mployeT, but she should not tender her resignation if she wished to have the benefit of the Occupational ReEstablishment Emergency Regulations. Her employer was debarred by the National Service Emergency Regulations from dismissing her because of her entry into (the iorces. In addition, it was necessary for eirls who had left their employment in anticipation of being accepted for the Armed Forces to bear in mind that if they were not accepted they would be unable then to obtain employment excepv in essential undertakings unless they had the prior consent of a manpower officer.
