NO RAILWAY STRIKE
LABOUR MINISTER'S RULING Rec. 11.30 a.m. LONDON, Feb. 3. The Locomotive Workers' Union has announced that there will be no strike of locomotive workers next week. The executive revealed that the union president and secretary met the Minister of Labour, Mr. Ernest Bevin, who said that in his opinion it would be against the spirit and intentions of the conditions of the Employment and National Arbitration Order if he regarded as a trade dispute a wage claim concerning which an independent arbitration tribunal had already given its decision.
The executive of the union notified the Minister in mid-January that a dispute existed within the industry and requested that steps be taken under the Employment and National Arbitration Order to give direction in that connection. They first stated that a strike would be calle;". in 24 hours if the dispute was not settled. It was over a wage award.
