A FAST HALF
There was very little doing on the tracks at Ellerslie this morning, but Kiatere Maati showed a fine turn of speed to run half a mile on the No. 1 grass in 48 3-os.
It was also quiet at Takaninl, where F. Smith worked his team very early. ■Among those to gallop was Yorkish, which suggests that he will ■ take his place in the Calliope Handicap to-morrow.
