TO-DAY'S BUSINESS BLACK CURRANTS SCARCE Black currants were In demand at. the marts this morning, but no supplies were available. The -market is still fairly well supplied with tomatoes, for which the demand Is good, but values eased slightly to-day. Peaches and plums are in fairly heavy supply. Choice lines are SJll selling at good rates. Heavier supplies of hothouse grapes are coming forward. Values ha\e eased. There is a good demand for choice lines of apricots and there are still a few strawberries coming forward, with good lines selling ireelj. Fruit. —Apples: All varieties, 13/ bushel; tomatoes: Hothouse, 4d to 1/ lb: outdoor, smooth, 3d to lid: crinkled, 3d to 9d. Oranges: Local Valencia, 20/ to 45/ case. Bananas: Repacked, ripe, 30/ case. Grapefruit: New Zealand, 30/ to 45/ case. Peaches: Dessert. 12/6 to 23/6, three per tray; Wiggins and Carmen, 6/ to 8/6 case. Paragon, 6/6 to 8/. Plums: Dessert, 6/ to 10/ case; cooking, 4/ to 5/6; Sultan, 5/ 5/ to 6/6. Grapes: Hothouse, Black hambuig, 1/9 to 3/ lb. Passion Fruit: 22/ case. Apricots. Otago 11/3 to 24/6 case. Strawberries: Pew speciai, to 3/6 chip; Captain Cook, ex. choice, 2/6 to' 3/; othcas, 1/6 to 2/3. Vegetables.—Beet, 4/ to 8/ case; carrots 27/ cwt: cabbages, 2/ to 8/ sack; cucumbers, 6d to 3/ doz; French beans, 1/ to 2/ bag; stringless beans, 3/6 to 8/ bag; green peas. 6/3 to 11/, kumaras. Island, 36/ cwt; lettuce, 2/ to 6/ case, marrows, 1,6 to 3/6 doz; onions, 5/ to 9/ bag, potatoes (new), No. .1 ITsd, No. - 1/ to 3/6 bag, pumpkins, 2iid to 4d lb; parsnips, 3/ to / doz; radish, 1/ to 2/ eoz; rhubaro, 2/10 to 6,6 rim' sninach 4/ to 8/ case; spring onions. _1/ 3/ bundle; swedes, 3/ to 5/ bag; turnips, 2/ to 3/ case. Poultry.—The supply of poultry was heavy and the demand was keen. The prices paid remain the same Selling rates were as follows.— cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime 6/ t° 8 / each, not prime 5/ to 6/; light breeds, prime 6/ to 7/6 not Drime. 2/6 to 3/u. Hens: Heavy bieeds, 6/6 to 7/6; light breeds. 3/6 to 4/6. Pullets: Heavy breeds best 7/ to 10/ smaller 2/ up, light breeds, best 4/ to 8/ smaller 3/. Drakes: Young, j>ritne 4/6 to 6/, smaller 3/ up; old, 2/6 to V. Ducks. Young. 6/ to 8/; old, 1/9 to 2/. Geese. 5/ to 10/. Turkeys: Hen, 7/6 to 10/; gobblers, 10/ to 15/. Produce Values.—There is no change in the price of eggs. Farmers' butter is Quoted at 1/ to 1/2 per lb. Cut flowers are in moderate supplj. The demand improved as the sale progressed and prices for good flowers were fair.
