FARM HAND'S DEATH
ACCIDENT WITH TRACTOR
A young man suffered injuries last evening at Moumoukai, Hunua, from which he died in the Auckland Hospital at 3.30 this morning. He was: Jack Noble Clarke, aged 19, a farm • • worker, son of Mr. Douglas Forester Clarke, of Moumoukai, Hunua. In company with several others, he was working on a ridge with a tractor in an attempt to recover a log which had fallen into a gully nearby. The tractor and the youth slipped down into the gully, falling about 80ft, and Clarke suffered extensive injuries. The Auckland St. John Ambulance station received a call at 6.30 that an accident had occurred, and an ambulance was immediately sent to the scene. Dr. Armitage, of the Auckland Hospital, accompanied the ambulance, while Dr. Jenkins, of Manurewa, proceeded to Moumoukai. A difficult journey ,was experienced by the rescuers in approaching the gully, and this was greatly increased on the return trip to the waiting ambulance, which had to cross two streams to get near the scene. Eight helpers worked in rela3)'s carrying the injured youth, the return journey taking about an hour and a half. The ambulance arrived at the hospital at 11.30, the victim being immediately taken to the operating theatre. All efforts to save his life failed. An inquest will be opened to-day by Mr. J. H. Luxford, S.M.
