NO CHANGE YET
SOUTHDOWN DISPUTE OFFICIAL INTERVENTION The Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. C. L. Hunter, who began investigations into the alleged "go slow" at the Southdown works of the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company yesterday, made a further visit to the works this afternoon in an endeavour to secure a settlement of the dispute, which is retarding production at the works. This morning there was no change in the position. It was stated that though work was still proceeding it was at reduced speed. Inquiries show, however, that production is largely affected only on one chain. The other chain contains a proportion' of men who are regarded as learners, and as the speed of the chain is regulated by the slowest workers on it, this chain has not been qualifying for much more than the minimum earning rate. • It is stated that on the No. 1 chain, which is composed of trained men, production has dropped by about 25 per cent.
