Mr. C. L. Hunter, Conciliation Commissioner, has returned from Wellington. Mr. J. B. Johnston arrived by Union Airways plane yesterday afternoon. The Minister of Labour and Mines, Mr. Webb, leaves for the south this evening. Mr. James Fletcher, Commissioner of Defence Construction and Controller of Shipbuilding, left for Wellington last evening. Mr. H. R. E. Black, son of Mr. E. F. Black, of Christchurch, is deputydirector of the essential goods division of the Australian and New Zealand branch of the British Purchasing Commission in Washington. Mr. E. J. Fawcett, M.A. (Cambridge, has been appointed DirectorGeneral of Agriculture, succeeding Mr. A. H. Cockayne, who was officially farewelled Vesterdav. Mr. Fawcett was appointed assistant Direc-tor-General of Agriculture in 1935.
