FEWER PARCELS
FOR AMERICAN SOLDIERS WASHINGTON, Jan. 10. The Secretary for War, Mr. H. L. Stimson, announced that new restrictions had been, placed on the dispatch of parcels to. soldiers. He said that from January 15 no package might be sent to a soldier overseas unless it contained an article requested by the soldier and approved by his commander. The package would not be accepted unless the written request, bearing the commander's approval, was presented. Magazines and newspapers might be posted only by publishers, and then only if the soldier was a subscriber. Letters would continue to be welcomed by the army. The new regulations were adopted, Mr. Stimson said, when a survey showed that the mail sent overseas in November was the equivalent of the capacity of three Liberty ships. If it had continued, it would have required 25 ships to carry mail to soldiers this year.
