AUCKLAND AIRMAN
PROMOTED FLIGHT-LIEUT. Private advice . has been received by Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Breckbn', of Northcote, that their second son, Ivan, has been promoted acting-flight-lieutenant in the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Flight-Lieuten-ant Breckon left New Zealand in October, 1940, as a sergeant-pilot and went direct to England, where he has made more than 32 raids over I
enemy territory with the New Zealand Bomber Squadron, including each of the 1000-bomber raids on Cologne and Essen.: Recently he has been instructing.
His elder brother, SquadronLeader A. A, N. Breckon, D.F.C., now serving in New Zealand, made a historic flight of 2000 miles to Narvik and back in May, 1940, staking 141 hours. This was the longest flight of the war up to that time. Flight-Lieutenant I. Breckon is one of the seven New Zealand - airmen mentioned in last night's list of.the 1943 New Year Honours, having been mentioned in dispatches for distinguished service.
