USE OF HOSES

LACK OF MODERATION

CITY RESERVOIR FALLING

"It is noticed with regret that previous requests for moderation in the use of hoses and sprinklers on private gardens are being disregarded," states Mr. A. S. Bailey, chairman of the works committee of the Auckland City Council, this morning.

Mr. Bailey said that large numbers of hoses were being left running unattended, and sprinklers were also being used to an unnecessary and wasteful extent. The consumption of water in the last few days had shown a tendency to exceed the amount which the main from the Waitakere ranges could bring into the city, and the storage in the city reservoirs was falling.

"Unless the public is prepared to use garden supplies in moderation," said Mr. Bailey, "the council may reluctantly be forced to prohibit the use of hoses and sprinklers in private gardens."
