OBITUARY

MR. J. CRICHTON (0.C.) WANGANUI, Monday. Following an accident when he was struck by a tram car, the death has occurred of Mr. James Crichton, aged 79. Mr. Crichton joined the Wanganui Garrison Band in 1882, and subsequently became conductor. The band's record of successes under his leadership included 13 firsts and seven seconds at New Zealand championship band contests. He retired in 1908 owing to ill-health.
