Various increases have been made in stake money, and the distances of certain races to be run at the Wellington Racing Club's Cup meeting in January have been amended in accordance with the desire to cater more fully for the genuine staying type. The Wellington Cup will carry a stake of £3000, inclusive of a trophy, the value of which has not yet been determined, and the additions to other events swell the increase in stake money, in the aggregate, to £2000. Races which have had the distances increased are:— Trentham High weight, from one mile to a mile and three furlongs; the Ruapehu Handicap, from six to seven furlongs; the Camp Handicap, from six to seven furlongs: the W.H.C. Handicap, from a mile and three furlongs to a mile and a half, and tlie Metropolitan Handicap, from six to seven furlongs.
