DEATH AT 100
MKS. PARKER, OP DEVONPORT,
The death has occurred of Mrs. Mary Parker, in her 101 st year. Mrs. Parker, who lived for many years at 24, Queen's Parade, Devonport, was the wife of Lieutenant-Colonel Henry Parker, who, at the time of his retirement, was the tide surveyor for the Customs Department in Auckland. The position is now known as boarding inspector.
Mrs. Parker was born at Man-o'-War Bay, eastern Waiheke Island, on Christmas Day, 1841. Her father was a bush man, who worked in the fine kauri forests that were the glory or Waiheke Island. There were few white people, but large numbers of Maoris living there then. The means or communication were rowing boats with sails and an occasional cargo boa t. &
Mrs. I at ker. had lived in the same house at Devon port for the past 56 .years. Sine was predeceased by her husband 22 years ago. and survived by sin children. There are many descendants, even to the fifth generation, including seven creat-great-grandchildren.
