AUSTRALIAN TURF
SKIPTOK PLEASES TRAINER The trainer, J. Fryer, was excepUonally pleased with Skipton's win in the Stand Handicap at Flemington last Saturday. He- said:—"Skipton's former trait of going off his feed following a hard race is not in evidence now." The rider H. Badger was disappointed in Wilson's effort, and said unless the horse improves next Saturday he intends to ask permission to cancel his riding engagement in order to accept the mount on David Innls in the Caulfield Cup.
Unless the scratchlngs are numerous in the Toorak Handicap and the Herbert Power Stakes, there is a possibility that the hurdle race on Saturday will be deleted in order to keep the programme within limits.
Skipton won the V.R.C. Derby and the Melbourne Cup last year.
A BUDDING STAR
Lord Advocate justified the high opinion always held of him from a staying standpoint by an impressive win at Geraldine over nine furlongs. He is a three-year-old chestnut colt with silver mane and tail by Solicitor-General from Sweet Beauty, dam of Cottingham, Rebel Star, and Treasurer, and it would seem that he has a bright future. His next appearance will be in the Dunedin Guineas.
