FEWER CHARGES

CRIME IN AUCKLAND

CRIMINAL SESSIONS OPEN

"I am happy to be able to tell you that this session there are fewer cases than usual for your consideration. There are 14 charges against 16 persons, and the charges are less serious than is customary," said his Honor, Mr. Justice Fair, in his address to the grand jury at the opening of the quarterly sessions in the Supreme Court to-day. "That is a matter for congratulation in the present circumstances. It is also a good sign that there is a very considerable drop in the number of cases. The average in Auckland is over 20 at the quarterly sessions." His Honor then briefly dealt with the cases which the grand jury had to consider.
