OFFICERS OF N.Z.E.F.

NEW MAORI COMMANDER (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The following appointments and promotions of officers of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force overseas were gazetted 10-night:— Lieutenant-Colonel (acting-Briga-dier) J. T. Burrows, to be brigadier (temporary) while commanding an infantry brigade. The following majors to be lieu-tenant-colonels (temporary) while commanding infantry battalions: R. W. Harding, M.M.. C. L. Pleasants, M.C., and R. E. Romans. Major Barker is appointed to command the Maori Battalion, and is granted the temporary rank of 1 ieu tenant-colonel. Major (acting-Lieutenant-Colonel) D. J. Fountaine, M.C«* is to be lieutenant-colonel (temporary) while commanding an infantry battalion. Captain R. S. Pearson to be major (temporary) while employed as brigade-major of an infantry brigade. Major (temporary-Lieutenant-Col-onel) C. M. Williamson, E.D., is to be lieutenant-colonel, and Major J. K. Robbie is to be lieutenant-colonel] (temporary) while commanding a machine-gun battalion. In the New Zealand Ordnance Corps. Colonel T. J. King is to be brigadier (temporary) while employed as Deputy-Director of Ordnance Services, General Headquarters, Middle East Forces.

In the New Zealand Artillery. Majors J. M. Mitchell and R. C. Queree (temporary lieutenantcolonels) are gazetted lieutenantcolonels.

Major W. A. T. McGuire, of the New Zealand A.S.C., is gazetted lieutenant-colonel.

In the New Zealand Railway Construction and Maintenance Group, Captain Christie to be major (temporary) while commanding' the .Zealand Engineer and Ordnance; Training Depot. Brigadier C. F. Weir, D:S;O., New Zealand Artillery, is,appointed officer in charge. New Zealand Artillery, Second N.Z.E.F., in addition to his. present appointment. Lieutenant-Colonel A. H. Andrews, New Zealand Ordnance Corps, is appointed officer in charge, New Zealand Ordnance Corps, in addition to his present appointment.

Major H. E. Crosse. M.C.. is appointed to command the New Zealand Reception Depot.

Major 1. A. Hart is appointed second in command of the Maori Battalion.

Major J. O. Kelsey, New Zealand Ordnance Corps, is appointed Staff Officer, Ordnance Services, Second N.Z.E.F.

Majors H. M. McElrov, H. M. Green and T. C. Campbell, M.C., are appointed respective second in command of three infantry battalions.

Brigadier C. E. Weir, D.5.0., Royal New Zealand Artillery, graduated from the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and is one of the youngest officers of his rank in the New Zealand Division. He was recently awarded the Distinguished Service Order for skill and gallantry in operations in Libya.

At the conclusion of the last war Brigadier T. J. King, 0.8.E.. who then held the rank of captain, remained in the Permanent Forces. Up to the time of his departure overseas he was Director of Ordnance Services at Trentham.

A former Canterbury and New Zealand Rugby representative, Acting-Brigadier J. T. Burrows was a member of the All Black team which toured South Africa in 102 S. Prior to leaving New Zealand with the First Kchelon with the rank of captain. he was a master at the Christchurch Boys' High School.

Lieutenant-Colonel W. A. T. McGuire was formerly a constable stationed at Auckland, and is on loan to the army for the duration of the war. He held the rank of captain in the Territorials and later commanded the Composite Company New Zealand Army Service Corps.
