Congress Celebrations For Gandhi SOME PRECAUTIONS TAKEN Rec. 11 a.m. BOMBAY, Oct 2. Gandhi is 73 to-day, and Bombay police pickets were posted at strategic positions. In expectation of trouble during the projected celebrations, the police last night arrested persons likely to cause disturbances. Shops, business houses and markets were closed in Bombay, while Congress flags were prominent, also "Quit India" posters. The police fired two warning rounds to disperse a crowd that was stoning a Bombay mill which was working to-day. No one was injured. Some arrests were made. Students held a procession in Bombay and attempted to stop office workers going to work. Meagre reports received this afternoon indicate that disturbances spread through villages. Girl students were selling flags and i distributing leaflets.
The Governor of Assam to-day ordered control of the movements of civilians throughout the province. Civilians using key roads leading to Shillong, where several explosions have taken place recently, must register their names and addresses at the control gates.
Twenty-five people were killed when the police tired on a mob attempting to raid a police station at Emm. said an earlier messaee. One was killed and 10 were injured in four more bomb explosions at Sholapur. making 10 bomb explosions in three days. A home-made bomb exploded near the Dadar railway station in Bombay last night. No one was injured.
