AWARD FOR PAINTERS In the Dominion painters and decorators' award, which has just been issued bv the Court, of Arbitration, the 40-hour week and the minimum wage of 2/9 an hour remain unchanged, but new provisions and minor alterations are made. Five minutes before ceasing work at lunch time is to be allowed to workers to enable them to wash. This also applies at the end of the day. Payment for statutory holidays has been provided for by the Court by inserting provisions similar to those recently incorporated in other building trades awards. A man in charge of from two to ten other men is to receive an extra 1/ a day; if in charge of from 11 to 20 men he is to receive 1/6 extra a day, and an extra 2/ if in charge of more than 20 men. The term of the award is for two years from October 12.
