AMIGO NEAR HIS BEST

(Special) WANGANUI, Thursday. The acceptances for the second day of the VVanganul meeting are excellent, and the racing should again be of a most Interesting description. It remains to be seen, however, how the railway restrictions will alfect the attendance. It is understood that the only train available from VVanganul will be that leaving at ti.HO a.m. It may be. too, that some trainers will have a dllficulty In getting their horses to the scene. The weather was fine for training operntlons this morning, but the going was on the dead side. Amlgo, with K. Chote In the saddle, slipped over five furlongs In l.il. From practically a walking up start he ran the frst quarter in 255, and finished on strongly against a strong breeze. After his \ ood effort last Saturday Amlgo will be greatly fancied for the Higgle Handicap, as the shorter Journey will suit him better. Dynasty looks all the better for his race last week, when he finished last in the sprint event. Nine furlongs will be m ° r .® to bis liking, but the Posterity priding will need a race or two to bring him to top form. He was restricted to useful work to-day. Golden Acre did no harm by his race last week, when he drew a bad marble, and as a result had to cover a lot of extra ground. This morning he went nicely over half a mile, which he left behind In 51s. the first quarter in 255. The Debutante Stakes candidate, Kelte-he was worked on the lead. The Defoe gelding was given barrier practice yesterday and shaped well, gathering up pace smartly. It Is understood he will be ridden by A. .Jenkins, and is likely to run n good race. There are not wanting indications that Clnssform will find solid support in the Higgle Handicap, as she Is expected to be much Improved by her race last week.
