CIVIL DEFENCE

MINISTER IMPRESSED

INSPECTION IN AUCKLAND

The Minister of Civil Defence, Mr. Bodkin, who has made a full inspection of E.P.S. plans in Auckland, this morning visited the Albert Park tunnel shelters, where he was shown over the system by the city engineer, Mr. J. Tyler.

Yesterday, the Minister conferred with the Mayor and Chief Warden, Mr. J. A. C. Allum, and then witnessed a dispersal test at the premises of Berlei (N.Z.), Limited. The Minister said he was very much impressed with what he saw, the place being cleared in a few minutes. Mr. Bodkin also paid a visit to the E.P.S. control room. He said the arrangements there were perfect. When an alert was given, all were at their posts promptly and he understood that some of the girls had to travel a considerable distance.
