WATERFRONT CONTROL
(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this clay. A vote of £800 on the Supplementary Estimates for the appointment of an additional assistantwaterfront controller was the subject of brief reference in the House of Representatives. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Holland, asked what were the Government's intenticns in such appointments. The Minister of Labour, Mr. Webb, said controllers should not be confused with the Waterfront Control Commission. There was a controller at each of the main ports, but at some of the smaller ones the shipping interests and the unions controlled affairs. There were about seven controllers operating.
