U-BOAT CAPTURED

Brazilian Pilot Escorts Prize

FUEL AND FOOD EXHAUSTED

Rec 11. RIO DE JANEIRO, Aug. 21

A United Press message states that a German submarine which had exhausted its fuel and food was captured by Captain Silvio Fontoura, of the Brazilian Air Force, who escorted the submarine to Fernando Noronha Island.

After the sinking of the sixth Brazilian ship, President Vargas prohibited all Germans from leaving Brazil, except diplomats who served before Brazil broke her relations with the Axis last January. A later message announced that the Brazilian Government had prohibited the departure of about 100 Germans who intended to embark on diplomatic vessels for Lisbon, ordering them to be held as hostages for 11 Brazilians arrested by the Germans in France.

United States planes, continuing their campaign against the enemy submarine pack in Brazilian waters, sank another off Fort Aleza, Brazil, making the third destroyed in the last few days.
