MOSLEM POLICY

PLACE IN INDIA

Pakistan Demanded In Return

For Co-operation

United Press Association—Copyright Rec. noon. NEW DELHI, Aug. 20. The Moslem League Working Committee, after three days of debate, passed resolutions stating that it was willing to consider any proposals for the creation of a provisional Government in India, provided the demand for a Pakistan (Moslem State) was conceded. The committee was also willing to negotiate on such proposals with any other of the political parties on a footing of equality. The resolution expresses the hope that Moslems would be able to carry on their peaceful occupations without intimidation from any quarter. Otherwise they will be compelled to resist in order to protect their lives, honour and property. It adds that the Moslem League is of the opinion that, if the Moslem masses are to be aroused to greater war efforts, with all the sacrifices involved, they must be assured that their participation will lead to the realisation of their goal, the Pakistan. Therefore the league calls on Britain, without delay, to make an unequivocal declaration, guaranteeing this. Mohammed Ali Jinnah denied the report that he contemplates meeting Gandhi. The curfew has been relaxed and the military have withdrawn from some areas. Mob Violence Flares Up Again Serious looting and arson by large mobs has again flared up in the Madras Presidency. A mob of 3000 attacked a police station in the West Godavari district and looted houses. A mob of 5000 attacked the Government offices in the Ramnad district and looted the local Treasury. They rushed the prison, opened the doors and burned the office. Demonstrators are picketing the Courts and other parts of the Ramnad district. A mob at one place set fire to tax records and also the car and personal property of the tax collector.

The police at Bhimavaram fired on demonstrators, killing some.
