THE PLIGHT OF THE CON SUMER
Australian oranges, fivepence each. Never in the history of the world has so much money been given for so little, as Mr. Churchill might have said. It would be interesting to know what is the landed cost of these oranges, and just how much the Australian grower gets for them. A few years ago, was it 1935? we were told that wages would be increased, working hours reduced and prices would not be allowed to increase. Hours have been reduced, but wages real wages have not gone up. and prices —well, ask any housewife! Xor is all the trouble due to the war; it is largely the result of Governmental bungling, profiteering, price fixing and all the evils that attend such folly, and the chaos that results from harassing regulations and interference by business novices who have tneir headquarters in Wellington. I he electors must see to it that this sort of thing ends with the war DEPRIVED OF FRUIT.
