PAKURANGA RACES
Nizam Scintillates In
Sprint
SEMI-FINAL TRAINING
Nizam, brilliant brother to the illustrious High Caste, made track watchers at Ellerslie sit up and take notice this morning by dashing over half a mile on a heavy track in 51 2-ss. It is true that he carried a light weight (young Jack Bagby was in the saddle), but he revelled in his task, and this semi-final gallop for his engagement in the Admiralty Handicap at the Pakuranga Hunt races at Ellerslie on Saturday is sure to enhance his popularity with investors. Other efforts to impress were recorded by Grandora, Cherry's Ticket and Dependable. All the work was undertaken on the No. 2 grass. Grandora, which is in first-class condition, was also sent over a half-mile, and after taking 13 seconds for the first furlong he came home over the final three in 38 3-ss, finishing with determination. Cherry's Ticket, always a brilliant track galloper, covered six in 1.17 3-5. She ran the first three in 37 3-ss, the final half in 52 3-ss, and this was a pleasing effort. Dependable's 1.7 was the best time for five, and this hack finished very resolutely.
