FOR SECOND TIME
CAPTURED BY ENEMY DARING ESCAPE RECALLED (0.C.) GISBORNE, this day. Notification has bean received by Mr. and Mrs. M. Craig, of Gisborne, that their son, Lieutenant J. W. C. Craig, whose wife lives in Auckland, is again a prisoner of war. This is the second occasion on which Lieutenant Craig has been captured by the enemy, and the news recalls a daring escape he made last year.
He was among New Zealanders captured during the Battle of Crete. He was taken to Greece but. with others, including Lieutenant Robin Sinclair, also of Gisborne, he escaped from a prison camp near Athens, and after remaining in hiding for a time managed to find his way across the Mediterranean to No information has been received regarding the locality or circumstances of his capture, but as the New Zealand Division has not been reported to be in action during the present battle in Libya, it is thought that Lieutenant Craig had been on some special duty apart from his division at the time.
