NEXT WEDNESDAY
PARLIAMENT MEETS
TO CONSIDER ESTIMATES
(By Telegraph.--Parliamentary Reporter). WF,I,I,INGTO.\, this day. Following a recess of approximately six weeks Parliament will meet for its main session on Wednesday. Consideration of the estimates of revenue and expenditure will be the main business, the House having to scrutinise a War Budget of £bj.'i,ooo, ooo and a Consolidated Fund Budget of 138,000,000,
No hint nas been given by the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, of the duration of the session nor has he announced that there will be a legislative programme.
Much interest centres around the present negotiations for a National Government or the strengthening of the War Cabinet, and the opinion is being freely expressed in informed circles that some practical resuit will evolve from the conversations that have been carried out between Mr. Fraser and the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Holland. The postponement of the general election and the setting up of the present War Cabinet were only achieved after long weeks of negotiation.
It is possible that a secret session will be held when members of the House will be informed of the latest developments of the war. This is usually followed by a discussion, opportunity being given for members to express their views on various matters affecting the war effort. The Prime Minister frankly informed the House on numerous occasions that if members desire to hold a secret session he will not put any obstacle in the way.
