SHOOTING SEASON

SHORT PERIOD URGED LOSS OF REVENUE FACTOR (0.C.) WELLINGTON, this day. Further efforts to secure a short shooting season are being made by the Wellington Acclimatisation Society. The chairman, Mr. I). J. Gibbs, said that the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, had been informed of the loss of revenue, £1000, that would result if no season were granted, a serious matter to a society that depended on shooting and fishing revenue for its existence. This matter had not been placed before the War Cabinet when the request was first heard. Mr. Fraser had replied that the additional representations would be brought before the War Cabinet.

If the season were granted, it was stated, it would not affect the war effort here more than It had in England, where a shooting season had been granted, and efforts had been made to give overseas men in uniform sport by lending guns. The society had spent £532 on the game farm upon the assurance of the Minister of Internal Affairs that a short season would be held.
