ON SUNKEN FERRY

FORMER WHANGAREI TEACHER (0.C.) WHANGAREI, this day A former teacher of the Whangarei High School, Leading Mechanic J. H. Donaldson, was among those who escaped from the converted ferry boat which was sunk in Sydney harbour. In a letter to his brother he says he was awakened by an explosion of the torpedo, which he thought wa3 a near miss air bomb. With 14 others he saved himself by climbing out of a window and jumping into a launch between the torpedoed ship and the shore. The others dived into the sea. All lost their belongings.
