INVENTIONS FOR ARMY

AUSTRALIAN RESPONSE SYDNEY, June 9. An appeal for more Inventions for the army has been made by the Minister for the Army, Mr. F. M. Forde. He said the new Army Inventions Directorate had received nearly 1300 submissions, numbers of which had proved most useful. He said more ideas were wanted. The Minister announced that a new type of land mine was being manufactured for the army. The mine, which is on the secret list, has been invented by L. R. Gleadall, a Brisbane commercial traveller, who served with the First Australian Imperial Forces at Gallipoli and in France. He then submitted several ideas for inventions, some of which i were used.
